Israel prepares for heavy bombardment, calling on residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs to abandon their homes “immediately”

The Israeli leadership has taken a provocative stance as the country’s military warns residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs to evacuate their homes immediately to, as stated, “save their lives.” A spokesperson for the Israeli armed forces specifically called on residents of the Bourj el-Barajneh and Hadath neighborhoods to move eastward toward Mount Lebanon via the Beirut-Damascus highway. Simultaneously, it was stated that residents of the Haret Hreik and Shiyyah districts should evacuate northward toward Tripoli via the Beirut-Tripoli highway, as well as eastward toward the Mount Lebanon region. This warning intensifies concerns regarding a potential military escalation in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.

Aerial bombardments intensify

The Israeli military also ordered hundreds of thousands of residents in southern Lebanon to move north on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, as fighter jets intensify bombing raids across the country. “Urgent warning to the residents of southern Lebanon: You must move immediately north of the Litani River,” wrote the Israeli military’s Arabic-speaking spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, on social media. Israel launched a wave of lethal attacks in various parts of the country following the launch of rockets toward Israeli territory by Hezbollah in support of Iran on Sunday, amid the US-Israel conflict with Tehran. Since Sunday, at least 77 people have been killed and hundreds wounded by aerial bombardments.

Thousands of people displaced

The evacuation order represents Israel’s most dramatic move to date, affecting approximately 8% of Lebanese territory, where hundreds of thousands of people reside. The area includes the large coastal city of Tyre, which is estimated to host up to 200,000 residents. According to official data, approximately 83,000 people have already been displaced since Sunday due to Israeli bombings and evacuation orders affecting dozens of villages. Human rights organizations expressed grave concerns for civilian safety. “The call for everyone living south of the Litani River to evacuate the area immediately raises serious legal and humanitarian issues and creates fears for the safety of citizens,” said Ramzi Kaiss, a Lebanon researcher at Human Rights Watch.

Hezbollah refuses to surrender arms

The leader of Hezbollah pledged that the organization will continue attacks against Israeli targets and stated that at least 15 attacks have been carried out, even against targets located at great distances, such as Tel Aviv. “We are facing an attack… and our choice is to confront it until the ultimate sacrifice. We will not surrender,” said Naim Qassem in his first speech since the start of this new phase of conflict. Meanwhile, there are reports of clashes between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops, who are alleged to have carried out incursions into Lebanese villages near the border. Israeli officials have not ruled out the possibility of a large-scale ground invasion in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has launched some of its attacks from areas south of the Litani River, an area that, according to the Lebanese army, had previously been demilitarized as part of a plan to disarm the pro-Iranian organization.
