Russia is in a rare and powerful position: it is the only country in the world that maintains good relations with Iran, the United States, Israel and the Persian Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Few leaders possess the ability to move with the precision of a strategic player across the global map in order to intervene with the aim of ending the war in the Middle East.
One of them is undoubtedly the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, who has emerged as the only leader who could mediate an end to the conflict in the Middle East, particularly between Iran, the United States, Israel and the Persian Gulf states.

The unique geopolitical position of Russia

Russia is in a rare and powerful position: it is the only country in the world that maintains good relations with Iran, the United States, Israel and the Persian Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
This balance is the result of decades of diplomatic skill, strategic planning and foresight that only Putin could execute with such precision.
Last Monday (2/3/2026), Putin held successive telephone conversations with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, with the most important dialogue being with Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto head of the kingdom in Riyadh.
These conversations took place after attacks suffered by these countries from Iran, attacks that were justified by the presence of United States military installations on their territories.
Putin’s strategy in these conversations was exemplary: he expressed understanding and sympathy for the suffering of these states, without condemning Iran, thus maintaining a balance that only a true geopolitical magician can achieve.
At the same time, he proposed possible solutions and mediation for achieving peace, highlighting Russia as the only actor that can bridge the enormous differences between the parties involved.

The illusion of a military alliance with Iran

Many observers have been carried away by the idea that Russia is a military ally of Iran, mainly due to propaganda narratives shaped by various Western analysts.
The truth is that Russia, under the leadership of Putin, maintains a delicate balance: on the one hand it cooperates with the Axis of Resistance under the leadership of Iran, while on the other it maintains strong ties with Israel and the Persian Gulf states, with the United Arab Emirates being its main strategic partner, explains geopolitical analyst Andrew Korybko.
This balancing ability proves the geopolitical genius of Putin.
At a time when many leaders fall victim to an oversimplified view of international relations, Putin manages to move precisely between different interests, while ensuring that Russia remains an irreplaceable factor on the global stage.

The goals of the involved parties and Russia’s multifaceted involvement

To understand the unique position of Putin, one must examine the goals of the main parties involved:

1) Iran: The main pursuit of Iran is to survive without regime change, demilitarization or “balkanization”, while at the same time seeking to inflict damage on its regional rivals and their common ally, the United States.

2) United States and Israel: They want regime change in Iran, full demilitarization and the return of the country to the role of an ally before the revolution of 1979.

3) Persian Gulf states: They seek to stop the attacks of Iran due to the vulnerability of their economies, but after the recent attacks, some states appear to support more actively the demilitarization of Tehran.

Iran is Russia’s fortress

Russia, under the leadership of Putin, aligns more closely with Iran, not out of political solidarity but out of pure practicality: Moscow seeks the preservation of the state of Iran, a balance of power in the region and the protection of Russian investments.
For Russia, the existence of a strong and independent Iran is a strategic necessity.
Iran is a fortress in the South of Russia.
If a pro-United States regime is established in Tehran or the country sinks into chaos, Russia will face a huge zone of instability on the borders of the Caucasus and Central Asia, while the Caspian Sea will risk being transformed into a military zone of NATO.
Under sanctions, the North South route through Iran toward the Indian Ocean has become a “precious lifeline weapon” for Russia.
Without an independent and friendly Iran, Russia will find itself in a state of transport isolation, as Western maritime routes through the Bosporus remain under threat of restrictions.
Iran has emerged as a key strategic partner of Russia in the field of defense technologies, such as UAVs and missile programs.
The loss of such an ally in the face of a global confrontation with the West would significantly weaken the military and geostrategic positions of Moscow.
If Iran falls under the influence of the West, its natural gas and oil reserves could be used to collapse global energy prices, hitting the Russian budget.

Putin’s strategy: Mediation and peace

The unique ability of Putin is to create a negotiating platform that is acceptable to all parties involved.
Although the terms that Iran might accept would not be fully acceptable to the United States or Israel, the support of the Persian Gulf states could force the United States to choose between continuing the conflict or restoring relations with the countries of the region.
Putin’s ability to shape compromises, which combine the protection of the security and sovereignty of Iran with the need of the Persian Gulf states to protect their economies, demonstrates his superiority in global diplomacy.
This is not simply political strategy: it is the ability to understand and handle with precision the complex dynamics of the Middle East, something that no other leader appears capable of doing in the same way.

Russia’s unique position on the global stage

This strategic positioning makes Russia under Putin the only player that can achieve a sustainable solution to the conflict.
Putin’s skills combine strategic thinking, geopolitical insight and diplomatic sensitivity.
While the United States and Israel focus on measures of demilitarization and containment of Iran, Putin manages to balance the interests of all without putting the Russian position in the region at risk.
This is why Russia remains the only country that can mediate effectively, while simultaneously ensuring regional stability and the protection of its interests.
Putin’s foresight, his ability to manage complex geopolitical networks and his recognition of delicate balances make his strategy not simply successful, but legendary.

“There is no one else in the world”

In an era full of challenges, where the Middle East remains a field of confrontation and war of interests, Vladimir Putin proves to be the only leader capable of maintaining balance, promoting peace and protecting the interests of all involved.
His ability to move between Iran, Israel, the United States and the Persian Gulf states, shaping a mediation framework that could end the conflict, is proof of his strategic genius and unmatched diplomatic ability.
Vladimir Putin is not simply a leader.
He is the architect of peace in the Middle East, the only actor who can combine strategic thinking, political balance and practical diplomacy into a unified vision.
In the world of modern geopolitics, Russia under the leadership of Putin remains the reference point for balance, influence and peace.
As many geopolitical analysts characteristically argue, “there is no other leader in the world” who can stop the bloodshed in the Middle East and the wider region.
