Secret Israeli military bunker is not so secret anymore.

Israelis are once again in shock, as The Grayzone website geographically located an underground bunker of strategic importance in a densely populated neighborhood of Tel Aviv, which is part of a military command and control center. The shelter, known as “Site 81“, houses a super-secret intelligence base and was constructed by the US.

When Iran struck a number of targets in northern Tel Aviv with ballistic missiles on June 13, Israeli authorities immediately sealed off the area to prevent journalists from documenting the damage. Trey Yingst from Fox News reported arriving at the scene near the headquarters of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (HaKirya) and the nearby Azrieli Center, but Israeli police immediately and aggressively pushed him back, moving him away from the spot north of the HaKirya Bridge, on the western side of Menachem Begin Road.

Iran knows

On that day, Iranian missiles hit the north tower of the Da Vinci apartment complex, approximately 550 meters southwest of where Yingst was located. The Grayzone’s investigation revealed that the building is situated immediately south of the Israeli Air Force’s “Canarit” towers and directly above an underground military intelligence shelter jointly managed by the American and Israeli armed forces. According to an analysis of leaks, public documents, and Israeli news reports, this location houses the super-secret and electromagnetically shielded intelligence facility, “Site 81”.

Censorship

The Government of Israel exercises fierce censorship over information concerning its military and intelligence facilities, while simultaneously accusing its opponents of using “human shields” – the practice of protecting strategic targets using the civilian population, which is prohibited by international humanitarian law. Although the existence of a US military project to expand Site 81 into a 6,000 square meter facility was widely reported by government records in 2013, the specific location remained unknown.

Analysis of images and strategic elements

Analysis of a photograph from a 2013 US Army study reveals that “Site 81” is located at the Da Vinci Towers site, as seen in the impact field image. According to the photograph published by the US Army in February 2013, this underground shelter is situated right next to the Israeli Air Force’s two Kannarit Towers, and the exact position is located near the corner of Eliezer Kaplan and Leonardo da Vinci Streets. The image reveals the position of the constructions intended to build “Site 81” in the planned underground space.

The Da Vinci Towers, built to protect the Central Military Command of Israel, appear to have become a kind of “human shield.” Some residents of the area have stated that they are unknowingly paying to protect the military command, as the complex is used for strategic purposes.

The human shield strategy

The publication and analysis of leaks from former Israeli military officials confirm that Site 81 functions as a strategic hub for command and control. Specifically, an email leak from former NATO Commander, James Stavridis, to former Israeli Chief of Staff, Gabi Ashkenazi, mentions the use of Site 81 for the deployment of command and control networks.

The creation of this underground shelter under the auspices of the US and Israel and the continuation of construction projects for its development confirm the strategic importance of the area and the concealment of its true nature.

Relations with private companies

The Kannarit Towers, located next to Site 81, were built by the large Israeli construction company Danya Cebus, in collaboration with the company Solel Boneh. Solel Boneh is now owned by Shikun & Binui, which is controlled by the American businessman Naty Saidoff, a man with close ties to the Israeli government and strategic partnerships in the US.

Perimeter 81, a cybersecurity company based in Israel, is headquartered in a building near Site 81 and is collaborating with the Israel Canada Group to develop a new headquarters in the area. Zafrir, CEO of Check Point Technologies, who also has a history of leadership in the military sector of the Medical Service (Unit 8200), demonstrates the close connections between strategic military and private business interests in the region.

These revelations continue to highlight the tension surrounding Israel’s underground strategic facilities and the numerous involvements of private companies in the military sector, reinforcing doubts about the level of transparency and the ethical parameters of these projects.
