The CEO of Bank of America was the only chief executive of a major Wall Street bank not invited to the Davos reception.
Brian Moynihan, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Bank of America, the second-largest bank in the US, was left off the guest list for a reception held on Wednesday night (January 21, 2026) on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. This exclusion occurred while the heads of other major banking institutions were in attendance.
As revealed by the Financial Times, Moynihan was the only Wall Street CEO of a major bank not invited to the reception honoring US President Donald Trump, a development signaling a massive rift in the relationship between Trump and Moynihan. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Trump also did not invite him to a dinner for Wall Street executives at the White House in November 2025. Conversely, other American bankers, such as Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan, Jane Fraser of Citigroup, and Charlie Scharf of Wells Fargo, were scheduled to attend the Davos reception, according to the guest list.
Timeline of the dispute
The 66-year-old BofA CEO has drawn the ire of the White House due to the issue of “debanking”, specifically the suspicion that certain individuals or companies were unfairly deprived of banking services for reasons including their political views. Trump has accused Moynihan of personally refusing to open a bank account for him after JPMorgan closed his account following his departure from the White House in 2021. “Brian was kissing my ass when I was president,” Trump stated in August 2025.
Although the American president has also publicly criticized Dimon and has threatened to sue JPMorgan for “debanking,” he maintains a more cordial relationship with him. During his appearance in Davos on Wednesday, Dimon made comments supportive of Trump’s approach to NATO and Europe.
Moynihan participated earlier on Wednesday in a panel alongside Trump’s Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick. A person familiar with the bank’s relationship with the White House stated that there are regular conversations with senior officials of the Trump administration, including contacts made during the forum in Davos.
